Indian River SummerFest

July 11-15, 2012

Indian River celebrates summer in Northern Michigan with SummerFest, five days of family fun. With a parade, lobster fest, duck race and kayak event, there is something for all ages in Indian River.

Listed here are the 2011 events. Check back in 2012 for the new lineup.

SummerFest begins Tuesday, July 12 at 5:30pm with a bike parade beginning at the Burger King followed by the Best Pizza in the North contest at 6pm in Marina Park. At 7pm, the Duck race takes place, a great family event. Buy a ticket for $1 that provides a number matched with one on the bottom of a rubber duck. The ducks head down the Indian River and the first one to cross the finish line wins a basket of Indian River merchandise. The evening ends with a free ice cream social at Marina Park.

On July 13, the Farmers Market takes place from 2-6pm at Citizens National Bank. From 6-9pm, the Lobster Fest and Pig Roast draws a crowd in Marina Park.

A Sand Castle Building contest starts Thursday, July 14th's, activities a 8am in DeVoe Park and the contest continues through 8pm. Family Beach Night is from 6-9pm at DeVoe Public Beach and includes a candy scramble, watermelon spitting contest, and limbo contest. The Cardboard Boat Race is a fun event from 7-9pm at DeVoe Beach. The Chili Cook Off begins at 12:45pm in Marina Park with tasting at 5pm. The Children's Activity Area including two bounce houses is in the downtown area from 12-6pm.

Friday, July 15 includes Mike Ridley performing from 6-8pm in the entertainment tent at Marina Park followed by The Blitz from 8-12pm.

Saturday, July 16th's activities begin bright and early at 7am with a 5K/10K run at Tuscarora Township Hall. The All-You-Can-Eat-Breakfast is at the Cochran-Roberts VFW Post. The 3rd Annual Kayak Bike Biathlon begins at 9am at DeVoe Beach.

From 9am-12pm, free plane rides for children take off at Campbell Airport. The Classic and Custom Car and Truck Show in downtown Indian River is from 10am-4pm. Youth Bike Races are from 11:30am-3pm at Cooperation Park followed at 3pm by WaterBall featuring the Topinabee and Tuscarora Township Fire Departments squaring off. At the Entertainment Tent at Marina Park, Mike Ridley plays from 6-8pm followed by Jelly Rolls Blue Band from 8-12pm.
